The oldest surviving Roman Jewish burial site is the catacombs. Six Jewish necropolises are known, and thought to have been built in the Imperial era, in the 2nd and 3rd centuries.
The catacombs of Villa Torlonia, the only ones that are still accessible, along with those of Vigna Randanini, are currently undergoing restoration work and cannot be visited.
